What is a Lucky 15?
A Lucky 15 places 15 separate bets on four selections. Coral and Ladbrokes describe “15 bets involving four selections on different events”: “four singles, six doubles, four trebles, one accumulator” [1] [2]. Sky Bet says a Lucky 15 “consists of fifteen bets involving four selections”, with “four singles, six doubles, four trebles and one four-fold” [3].
Sky Bet defines a double as “one bet made up of two selections in different events”, a treble as “one bet involving three selections in different events” and a four-fold as “one bet made up of four selections in different events” [3]. Our reading: a Lucky 15 covers every way of combining four selections, once each, so 4 + 6 + 4 + 1 = 15. For the Yankee and other multiples, see accas, Lucky 15s and bet builders.
This guide quotes three bookmakers and names each one. Coral and Ladbrokes name the same company, LC International Limited, as promoter in the terms of their cash out promotion [4] [5]. Sky Bet's help centre says SBG Sports Limited holds a Gambling Commission of Great Britain licence for customers located in the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man [6].
Our reading: the Coral and Ladbrokes pages read for this guide carry near-identical text on Lucky rules, void selections, non-runners and each way bets, so they are not independent confirmation of each other.
The article text of the Coral and Ladbrokes Lucky rules, bet types, void selection, non-runner, each way and Rule 4 pages does not limit the rules to customers in one place. Their general rules page names one local variation, a timing rule for customers betting in shops in Ireland [7] [8]. The Sky Bet bet types, settlement, winnings, non-runner and each way pages carry no such limit in their text.
Every Coral and Ladbrokes help page also carries a menu listing United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Rest of World (Gibraltar & Jersey). The clearest account scope found is the eligibility for that promotion, which is open to customers “whose accounts are registered in the UK & Republic of Ireland” [4] [5].
Sky Bet's licensing page lists separate licences for customers outside the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man [6]. Our reading: the pages may describe rules for more than Great Britain customers, so check the rules for your own account.
How many bets is it, and what does it cost?
Sky Bet lists the Lucky 15 among bets “made up of more than one bet” and says “Your stake is multiplied by the amount of bets involved” [3]. Coral and Ladbrokes give the same rule for a Yankee: “Your stake will be multiplied by 11” [9] [10]. Their Lucky rules pages do not state a multiplier.
Our reading: the amount you enter is the unit stake on each of the 15 bets, so the total stake is 15 × the unit stake. A £1.00 Lucky 15 costs £15.00, a £2.00 one costs £30.00 and a £10.00 one costs £150.00.
Sky Bet says “as long as one of the bets wins, you will receive some winnings” and “to get maximum winnings, all the bets must win” [3]. Coral and Ladbrokes say “One winner guarantees a return” [1] [2]. Our reading: a return is not a profit. With one winner, only the single on that selection pays, which can be less than the total stake.
How does a £1 Lucky 15 settle?
Our reading, with invented figures: take a £1.00 Lucky 15, a £15.00 total stake, on four invented selections in four different events. A is at 1/2, B at 2/1, C at 5/2 and D at 4/1. As how to read betting odds explains, a decimal price includes the stake, so these are 1.50, 3.00, 3.50 and 5.00. Each bet returns its unit stake times the decimal prices of its selections.
| Bet type | Bets | Stake | Return if all four win |
|---|---|---|---|
| Singles | 4 | £4.00 | £13.00 |
| Doubles | 6 | £6.00 | £60.25 |
| Trebles | 4 | £4.00 | £117.00 |
| Four-fold | 1 | £1.00 | £78.75 |
| Total | 15 | £15.00 | £269.00 |
Calculated for this guide using invented prices: A 1/2, B 2/1, C 5/2, D 4/1. Each return includes the stake on that bet. They are not offers any bookmaker made.
Our reading: the four singles return 1.50 + 3.00 + 3.50 + 5.00 = £13.00. The six doubles return £60.25, for example A and B at 1.50 × 3.00 = £4.50. The four trebles return £117.00. The four-fold returns 1.50 × 3.00 × 3.50 × 5.00 = £78.75. Together that is £269.00, which is £254.00 more than the £15.00 staked.
| Invented outcome | Bets that pay | Calculation | Total returned | Against the £15.00 total stake |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All four win | 15 of 15 | £13.00 + £60.25 + £117.00 + £78.75 | £269.00 | £254.00 more |
| A, B and C win; D loses | 7 of 15 | 3 singles £8.00 + 3 doubles £20.25 + 1 treble £15.75 | £44.00 | £29.00 more |
| Only A wins | 1 of 15 | 1 single £1.50 | £1.50 | £13.50 less |
| None win | 0 of 15 | No bet wins | £0.00 | £15.00 less |
Calculated for this guide using invented prices. Each return includes the stake on that bet. Which selections win changes the result, so these four outcomes are not the only ones. They are not offers any bookmaker made.
Our reading: which selections win matters as well as how many. If A, B and D had won and C had lost, the three singles, three doubles and one treble made from those three would return £59.00, not £44.00. If only D, the 4/1 selection, had won, the return would be £5.00 rather than £1.50. With one winner the return is below the total stake in both cases.
What is an each way Lucky 15?
An each way bet is a win bet plus a place bet, as how each way bets work explains. Coral and Ladbrokes say “By placing an Each Way bet you are doubling your stake” [11] [12]. Sky Bet says the “'x2' appears indicating that your stake will double” [13].
Sky Bet names the bet. Its winnings page refers to “an each way Horse Racing multiple, i.e. Each Way Treble, Each Way Lucky 15 etc” and says “place terms are determined on the total runners coming 'under starter's orders'” [14]. Its settlement page says “Each Way Doubles, Trebles etc., are settled as two distinct bets i.e. win on to win and place on to place” [15].
Our reading: if each of the 15 bets is taken each way, each has a win part and a place part. That makes 30 bets and twice the total stake, £30.00 at a £1.00 unit stake. None of the Coral, Ladbrokes or Sky Bet pages read gives the figure 30 for a Lucky 15, so the total on your bet slip is the figure to go by.
Sky Bet's each way page describes each way accumulators and multiples as 2 bets: “an each way bet is still only 2 bets - 1 for ALL selections to win and 1 for ALL selections to place” [13]. That page does not mention Lucky 15s, so this guide does not read that wording across to a Lucky 15 or work one through bet by bet.
What if a selection is void or does not run?
Coral and Ladbrokes' void selection page has a table by bet type. For “Lucky 15/31/63” it says “Unit stake returned on single bets containing void selection. Accumulator bets stand on remaining selections, as above” [16] [17]. The accumulator row says “Bet stands on remaining selections, i.e. 4-fold becomes a treble; treble becomes a double etc.” [16] [17].
Their general rules say “Void selections in multiple/accumulator bets will be treated as non-runners and the stake will run onto the remaining selections in the bet” [7] [8]. Sky Bet says “in Single bets the stake will be returned” and, in accumulative bets, “the stake will run on to the remaining selection(s) with a Double becoming a Single, a Treble becoming a Double and so on” [15].
For horse and greyhound non-runners, Coral and Ladbrokes say “For multiple bets, the bet will continue with the remaining selections”, but “For ante-post bets, non-runners are settled as losers” [18] [19]. Sky Bet says a multiple “will become the next accumulative bet down e.g. a treble becomes a double”, and that an Antepost bet “will be classed as a losing bet” [20].
Our reading, applying those rules one bet at a time to the invented example: D is void and A, B and C win. The £1.00 single on D is returned. The other 14 bets stand on A, B and C as 6 singles, 6 doubles and 2 trebles, which return 2 × £44.00 = £88.00. The total returned is £89.00 against the £15.00 staked. None of the pages read works a void Lucky 15 through.
A late withdrawal can also cut winnings. Coral and Ladbrokes say Rule 4 deductions “are made to the winnings you receive back when the horse you have backed wins or is placed” [21] [22]. Sky Bet says a Rule 4 is “normally expressed as x pence in the pound” [23]. None of the three Rule 4 pages mentions multiples, so this guide does not say how a deduction applies inside a Lucky 15.
Gambling Commission condition 4.2.6 requires betting licensees to set out in their full rules “the circumstances under which the operator will void a bet” and the “treatment of withdrawals, non-runners, and reformed markets” [24]. It also lists “maximum payout limiting liability for a specific betting product or generally” [24]. The pages read for this guide do not work a payout limit through for a Lucky 15. Our reading: the rules vary by bookmaker, so read the rules of the one you use before you rely on any of this.
Where can you set limits and get help?
Because a Lucky 15 is 15 bets, the total stake is 15 times the number you enter. A deposit limit caps what you put into an account, and deposit limits and account tools sets out what licensed businesses must provide.
